THE HOMEPROS FIELD GUIDE · house cleaning

Deep cleaning vs. regular cleaning: compare the scope.

Choose by the home’s condition and the tasks required. Package names alone do not tell you what will be cleaned.

BEFORE YOU REACH OUT

Get these three things ready.

  • Identify accumulated buildup
  • Mark tasks outside routine maintenance
  • Compare the actual checklists
01

Use condition as your starting point

A maintained home and a home with accumulated buildup can need very different work. Share current photos and explain priorities so the provider can recommend a scope based on the property.

02

Compare specific tasks

Look for explicit treatment of baseboards, fixtures, appliance interiors, cabinets, and detailed bathroom or kitchen work. Do not assume a deep-clean label includes every optional task.

03

Prepare for the appointment

Ask what the team needs cleared for access, how delicate items should be handled, and which areas are excluded. Set priorities if the full task list needs more than one visit.

04

Plan ongoing maintenance

After the first service, decide which tasks need repeating and which can be occasional. Confirm whether the ongoing checklist differs from the initial visit.

Take these questions into the conversation.

What exactly are we agreeing to?
Ask for the included tasks, exclusions, materials, and completion expectations in writing.
What would change the scope?
Ask how an unexpected condition is documented and how you approve additional work.
Who handles the follow-up?
Confirm the contact process for questions, missed tasks, or a problem after the visit.
